Data Centre Administrator - Qatar Petrochemical Company Ltd. (QAPCO)

1. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To operate, administer and maintain Data Center facilities both in Mesaieed and Doha to industry standards for hosting the company’s (and its associates') servers and communication devices. To plan, operate, administer, maintain and upgrade Servers and related hardware for the company

2. TASKS PERFORMED

a) Ensures the physical placement and secure operation of servers. Provides and maintains required environmental controls and housekeeping facilities for data center. Provides and maintains the physical access and security of the data center. Liaises with the concerned maintenance contacts for resolving any alerts in Data Center environment
b) Operates and administers redundant storage environment for the servers; monitors disk space and reports accordingly. Locates performance bottlenecks and resolves to ensure minimum disruption of IT Services
c) Performs regular backup and restore for scheduled and ad-hoc backups and safe retrieval of backups. Maintains and manages backup tapes and backup devices through a comprehensive backup management system Regularly tests the good operations of backup. Prepares the daily checklist and maintain logs for the backup, tape movement, test restores.
d) Provides appropriate size/type of servers to run the company’s (and its associates) systems. Operates, administers, maintains and upgrades server and related hardware.
e) Conducts preventive maintenance for devices in the data center, including servers, storage devices, switches etc, creating and maintaining equipment logs. Coordinates with the respective application support administrator over log discrepancies. Performs licence tracking and monitoring for systems and related products
f) Perform capacity planning to avoid any bottleneck on server and storage
g) Monitors the Data Center and prepares the daily checklist as part of the Data Center Health and Operations Status report. Produces periodic progress reports for the IT support lead as required

h) Administers, sets up new installations and maintains the company's Access Control System to ensure the proper operation of the various readers, controllers and surveillance cameras and other components of the Access Control System

i) Liaises with vendors and suppliers, coordinates with company associates, coordinates with other similar industries and IT Departments as required

j) Is part of CAT (change advisory task force) for implementing change management at the data center perimeter.
k) Applies IT policies to Qapco’s data center and ensure that any unauthorized person do not enter the data center.


3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Diploma in technical qualification in Computer Sciences or equivalent
Microsoft MCP and Linux basic certification
6 years of diverse information systems experience, with the emphasis on IT operations and managing server farms and data centers. Ideally in a similar industrial/commercial environment
Thorough knowledge of storage management skills including data backup and restore
Very good spoken and written English
