Nutritionist

Position Summary:
The Nutritionist, under the guidance and support of the General Physician and the Senior Nutritionist is responsible to support the functions and operation of the health education section programs. The job holder participates in health education activities; implements the nutritional programs which address areas such as promotion of healthy lifestyle involving healthy nutrition & physical activity practices, breastfeeding, micronutrient deficiency, food-based dietary & physical activity guidelines, surveillance

Nature and Scope of Position:
1. Assist in developing, plan & implementation of national strategy/action plan which addresses proper nutrition for all, school health issues related to nutrition, and prevention and control of health problems and chronic diseases related to nutrition. This includes the following areas: promotion of healthy lifestyle (i.e. nutrition & physical activity practices); surveillance; and monitoring & evaluation of ongoing nutritional programs.
2. Advocacy for policies related to healthy lifestyle.
3. Participate in awareness campaigns involving counseling of members of the public about healthy lifestyle in public places such as malls, workplaces, and educational institutions. Awareness campaigns may be carried out in the evenings and weekends.
4. Writing articles for local and national newspapers and newsletters.
5. Promoting healthy food choices and disease prevention by increasing awareness of the link between nutrition and health.
6. Participating in training, supervision and team meetings.
7. Accessing funding to set up and run projects in any nutritional programs.
8. Educating other healthcare workers (social workers & school nurses) about food and nutrition issues.
9. Development of health education materials.
10. Presentations & training workshops for diverse group of people such as health care workers, school children, parents & other members of the public.
11. Other tasks as assigned.
