Legal Counsel, Consumer Banking - Standard Chartered

Job Description

In this role as a Legal Counsel based in Qatar, you will provide legal advice and transactional support to the Consumer Bank and be responsible for driving the legal strategy forward.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

You will promote, lead and manage the culture and practice of Compliance and ethics to ensure the conduct of business is within legal, regulatory requirements and ethical standards consistent with supporting Group's strategic direction and growth aspirations.

Raise awareness of, and address, legal risks and issues by providing the Business specific legal training
-Promote active cooperation between the business legal teams to encourage a collegiate working environment across the businesses
-Support and work effectively and proactively with other support function teams (Compliance, HR, GTO, Operational Risk and CRES) to manage all country legal risks
-Ensure that external legal engagements are coordinated and effective and provide support for panel arrangements when required
-Monitor litigation against the Bank (for CB and Support Functions) and coordinate with external counsel; update the Country legal risk report
-Ensure that the legal team executes transactions and cases in a timely and effective manner
-Drive the development and maintenance of good relationships with internal and external business stakeholders at appropriate levels ensuring an open and cooperative environment
-Provide legal advice, briefings, recommendations and reports on material legal risks and issues to business, country and functional stakeholders
-Contribute to Team Legal's risk governance through providing country perspective on legal risk policies and procedures and ensuring consistency in the Country's approach to legal risk management
