Financial Controller - WHSmith Qatar - WHSmith

The Opportunity

Reporting to the General Manager - Qatar, the Financial Controller will be responsible for all aspects of financial planning, budgeting and decisions for the WHSmith business in Qatar. This position will also have line management responsibility for an Accountant Clerk.

The Accountabilities

• Production of monthly P&L, balance sheets and cashflow for WHSmith Qatar and ensuring all UK reporting requirements are met
• Forecasting and budgeting P&L, Balance sheet and cashflow throughout the year
• Business case / business modelling work
• Stock take organisation and management
• Board meeting attendance and preparation?
• Statutory accounts preparation
• Annual Corporation Tax preparation
• FBT (Class 1a) return preparation
• Annual external audit management
• Banking relationships
• Payroll function (payroll preparation review and submission, superannuation (pension) regulatory requirements, payroll tax, HR files etc.)
• IT systems (POS, Payroll, Finance and Banking)
• Acquisition and due diligence work

The Requirements of the Role

• Qualified accountant (minimum 6 years post qualifying experience)
• Experience of working in the Middle East in a senior financial role is highly desirable
• Strong financial accounting background/ experience
• Good IT literacy/ accounting package knowledge
• Knowledge of Qatar financial practices and regulatory requirements is preferred.
• Stock accounting experience
• Problem solver
• Retail experience preferred
